Hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer vacation!! It’s been a hot one and not just because of the weather outside. Here is a quick report of First Amendment news that has got tempers and temperatures in D.C. heating up.
President Trump has not hidden his distaste with US news media. He has referred to them as the “enemy of the people” on multiple occasions. Recently President Trump has been amplifying his opinion of the media on Twitter. In response to Trump’s demeaning words over 200 news organizations participated in a coordinated campaign on Thursday, August 16, 2018. The news organizations released editorials about the importance of an independent media and a social media hashtag #EnemyOfNone.
A report by Ipsos Public Affairs, a nonpartisan, objective, survey-based research practice made up of seasoned professionals, states that 26 percent of Americans say “the president should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior.”
Alex Jones, the infamous conspiracy theorist who runs the Infowars Radio program and website has been suspended from major social media networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and Apple.
